The people holding Wednesday in the underground library turn out to be familiar classmates. Bianca, Xavier and their friends have revived the Nightshades, but Wednesday refuses an invitation to join them and frees herself. Outreach Day then sends Nevermore students into Jericho to volunteer. After learning that Joseph Crackstone is the other figure in Rowan's drawing, Wednesday swaps assignments with Enid so she can investigate Pilgrim World. Eugene helps her enter the replica meeting house, where a portrait contains the girl from her visions. The display offers a polished version of the town's past, but Wednesday wants to find the original building and its missing story.
At the ruined meeting house, a vision shows Crackstone imprisoning outcasts and setting the building alight. Goody Addams escapes the massacre, linking Wednesday's ancestor to the history Jericho celebrates. Back in the present, Wednesday spots the monster and follows its tracks until they change into human footprints. Rain destroys that evidence before Xavier can inspect it, and he warns her that psychic visions can mislead. Wednesday responds to the town's ceremony by having Thing sabotage Crackstone's new statue while she plays the cello. Weems suspects her involvement and condemns the damage to relations with Jericho. Elsewhere, another killing leaves the sheriff with a photograph of the creature.
