Lifeboats

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Kendall takes charge of Waystar as acting chief executive and tries to look confident, but the company’s debt threatens to force an immediate repayment if its stock price falls below a threshold. He asks the bank to renegotiate and fails. With no easy way to protect the business, Kendall approaches his college friend Stewy Hosseini, now a private-equity investor. Stewy agrees to inject four billion dollars in exchange for shares and a board seat. Kendall sees a rescue; the agreement also gives an outsider influence over the family company. Meanwhile, Greg arrives hungry and uncertain of his new role, collecting leftover office food until Tom arranges work for him.

Shiv asks former boyfriend Nate Sofrelli to investigate Marcia, while Kendall tries to repair things with his estranged wife Rava. They sleep together, but Rava tells him she has hired a divorce lawyer. Kendall visits Logan to report the financing and explain that Waystar’s stock has fallen. Logan dismisses the deal as a bad judgment call because of Stewy’s board position. Greg later sees Stewy meeting with Sandy Furness, Logan’s rival. The sight makes the investment look like more than a simple cash lifeline, though Kendall does not yet know what Stewy and Sandy are discussing. Shiv finally reaches her recovering father, but his confused sexual gesture leaves her shaken. Marcia attributes it to medication.
