The school trip takes the students to a First World War memorial in France, but their own arguments keep interrupting the visit. Otis tries to speak with Ruby after their breakup and learns that she needs distance. Maeve discovers that Aimee paid for her place on the trip and reacts badly to what she sees as charity. Their argument exposes how much Aimee struggles with her relationship with Steve and how often Maeve pushes away offers of help. Meanwhile, Rahim's attempt to deal with a blocked coach toilet causes a road accident, and Adam takes responsibility to protect him from humiliation.
After the disruption, the teachers' mistaken head count leaves Otis and Maeve behind at a service stop. Waiting for the coach to return, they finally discuss the voicemail. Maeve knows Isaac deleted it but has not heard the full confession. Otis tells her what he said and makes clear that he meant it. They kiss just before the returning coach's lights reveal them to Ruby and the others. On board, Jackson and Cal also kiss, but Cal pulls away before things go further. The group makes it home, and Maeve asks Otis for time to sort out her feelings. Eric, traveling separately to Nigeria with his family, arrives to a warm welcome while Adam waits for a reply to his message.
