Jack Duquesne's confrontation with Clint Barton ends when he and Eleanor recognise Hawkeye. Clint admits that Kate is helping him investigate, but Eleanor privately asks him to keep her daughter safe and out of the case. He leaves with Ronin's sword. Laura helps him investigate Sloan Limited, revealing it as a front for the Tracksuit Mafia with Jack listed as its chief executive. Eleanor makes a separate call to an unidentified contact about Clint's involvement.
Kate brings Christmas food and decorations to the apartment where Clint is staying. Their evening grows more personal when he describes sparing Natasha Romanoff instead of killing her on an assignment. Kate also works out that he was Ronin after losing his family in the Blip. The following day, she asks the role-players to help recover Clint's arrows from police evidence. Clint approaches Kazi and urges him to persuade Maya to abandon her revenge before more people are hurt.
Laura tracks the stolen watch to an apartment, and Kate goes inside while Clint watches from a nearby roof. Kate recovers the watch and discovers notes about Clint's family, then realises she is in Maya's home. Maya attacks her as a masked assassin attacks Clint. Kate reaches the roof, where the separate fights become a struggle among all four. The assassin is unmasked as Yelena Belova before escaping, and Maya retreats. Recognising the danger posed by a Black Widow assassin, Clint tells Kate their partnership is over and orders her home.
