Maya Lopez's hunt for Ronin began when she saw him kill her father. Flashbacks follow her childhood with William, who encourages his deaf daughter as she learns to fight and communicate in a hearing world. In the warehouse, Maya questions Clint Barton and Kate Bishop about Ronin's return. Clint claims that Black Widow killed Ronin, but Maya does not believe him. Their confrontation turns violent, and Clint's hearing aid is smashed during the escape.
Clint frees Kate and they steal a car, with Maya and the Tracksuit Mafia close behind. Kate fires unfamiliar trick arrows while Clint drives, struggling to hear what she is saying. Explosions and other specialised arrows disrupt the pursuing vehicles before an arrow enlarged with Pym technology helps stop the chase. The pair finally escape the pursuing gang. Back at their refuge, Clint cannot hear his son Nathaniel on the phone, so Kate writes down the boy's words and helps his father answer.
After getting his hearing aid repaired, Clint tries to explain that being a hero comes with losses Kate has not considered. She still wants to help and believes Jack Duquesne may connect the gang to Armand's murder. They enter Eleanor's penthouse to search her security company's records. Kate finds that Kazi works for Sloan Limited, then gets locked out when she searches for Jack. While she deals with the computer, Jack surprises Clint and holds Ronin's stolen sword to his throat.
