Eun-tak leaves Kim Shin's house after learning that removing the sword will kill him. She feels deceived by the home and affection she had begun to trust. Shin searches familiar places without finding her, then asks the Grim Reaper to help trace her through his work. The Reaper admits that he told her the truth because he does not want either of them to be hurt.
Deok-hwa locates Eun-tak working at a ski resort, but Shin's arrival does not bring an easy reconciliation. She rejects his request to return and threatens to remove the sword if he keeps coming. He eventually admits that he wants her to need him and love him, giving him a reason to resist their fate. Falling ski equipment then knocks her unconscious, and the Reaper receives notice of her approaching death.
Shin reaches Eun-tak when her thoughts call for him and carries her to safety. After recovering in hospital, she returns with him to the house, where the Reaper welcomes her back. Her job with Sunny also brings the two couples together. Hearing Sunny's real name unsettles Shin, and when she touches the Reaper's hand, he sees a woman from the Goryeo palace. He cannot yet explain the connection.
