Kim Shin disappears, and memories of him begin vanishing from the people he knew. Eun-tak hurriedly writes reminders that she was his bride and must remember him, but even those words become difficult to understand. Shin is offered release and instead stays between worlds, holding to his promise. Nine years pass while Eun-tak grows into a radio producer, carrying a sadness whose cause she cannot name.
On her birthday, Eun-tak blows out candles and asks for help, summoning Shin back into the world. He embraces her, but she does not recognize him and mistakes him for an actor. The Grim Reaper welcomes him home with his memories intact. Deok-hwa and Secretary Kim encounter the returning stranger too, and the chairman's earlier instructions help Shin recover his place and property.
Shin finds reasons to keep seeing Eun-tak, first over borrowed coffee money and then through sponsorship for her radio programme. She is drawn to him without understanding why. A letter she wrote during her old Quebec trip finally arrives, bearing her own handwriting and memories she cannot place. Following that clue, she flies to Canada and investigates its delayed delivery. At the familiar red doorway, Shin steps out in front of her.
