Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
Five years after high school, Rue is moving drugs across the border to repay Laurie, whose demands keep her trapped in the trade. A Texas family offers unexpected kindness during one journey, and Rue begins reading the Bible after talking with Ali about faith. She then seeks work with strip-club owner Alamo. Cassie and Nate are preparing to marry, while Lexi works in television and Maddy manages performers and influencers.
Rue's attempts to escape Laurie draw her further into Alamo's business and eventually into informing for the DEA. Cassie's pursuit of online income continues alongside her life with Nate. By the closing episodes, Nate is dead, but Cassie and Maddy present his absence as a disappearance. Faye betrays Rue at Laurie's property; she survives the chase with G's help. When the DEA arrives, Laurie kills herself, while the expected drug shipment has been diverted.
Alamo gives Rue pills presented as painkillers. She dies on Ali's couch, and he discovers fentanyl in the tablets. Her apparent trip to collect Fez and return to her childhood home belongs to the dying sequence, rather than a successful reunion. Jules paints Rue in mourning; Cassie proposes a house for online creators, but Lexi declines the writing job. Ali retaliates at Alamo's club and kills him after Bishop supplies an unloaded weapon. He later visits the Texas household that once sheltered Rue.
