Ali's past includes addiction, violence toward his family and the difficult work of becoming sober. His later service to other people in recovery is marked by the names of those he has lost. Rue visits him before another assignment at Laurie's property, describing her cooperation with the DEA and her fear for Leslie. Her conviction that the burning tree was a divine sign does not remove his concern for her safety.
Cassie's acting opportunity collapses, and she returns to promoting adult content with Maddy's help. Naz holds Nate in a buried coffin to force payment, making Cassie responsible for trying to save him. Maddy brings the crisis to Alamo, who accompanies her to the exchange and kills Naz instead of paying him. They excavate the coffin, but Nate is already dead after a snake entered it. Alamo uses his intervention to claim a larger share of Maddy's business.
Rue tells Lexi about her dangerous work, and the information eventually reaches Alamo through Maddy. At Laurie's property, Wayne distrusts Rue's story, injures her hand and confines her. Faye initially helps her escape the room and open the safe. Instead of money, they find identification documents belonging to other women. Faye decides Rue has manipulated her and calls for Wayne, ending their attempted escape with Rue trapped among people who already suspect her loyalty.
