About Risen 3 - Titan Lords

A young pirate captain’s life and soul are taken amid the return of the Titan Lords. Exploring the Southern Seas, the hero pursues a way to resist the Underworld while building alliances with pirates, mages or Demon Hunters, developing combat and magic, and deciding how humane a person to become.

Risen 3: Titan Lords begins in a world abandoned by its gods and scarred by the return of the Titans. The Nameless Hero is the son of the pirate captain Steelbeard and hopes to follow his father’s path, but an encounter with the forces of the Underworld leaves his life shattered and his soul at risk. The threat draws the young captain into a struggle that spans the Southern Seas, where people displaced from the old empire now share islands with pirates and the natives of Arborea. The Inquisition has tried to bring the region under its authority, while other powers pursue their own answers to the demonic danger. The hero’s immediate search for a way forward is bound up with the fate of this divided world.

Exploration moves between island regions, settlements and dangerous stretches of wilderness. The sea chart shows the wider Southern Seas as well as a detailed map of the current region; selecting a quest in the logbook marks relevant people and objectives. Conversations supply jobs and information, and the journal keeps active, completed and failed quests together with relevant dialogue records. Allies encountered along the way can join the crew and accompany the hero on trips ashore. Travel is therefore supported by both preparation and company: the player chooses which task to pursue, checks its marked locations, then takes the crew into terrain where wild animals, pirates and creatures from another world may stand in the way. Swimming and climbing also let the hero move through the varied landscape.

Risen 3’s three principal guilds offer different approaches to the conflict. The Demon Hunters are an ancient order re-forming in Calador, with druids preserving their connection to nature and rune magic. The banished mages have regrouped on Thunder Isle to study crystal magic, and their Guardians combine military service with access to magical artefacts. Pirates bring firearms and a culture organised around captains and their council, while their history is entangled with voodoo and the supernatural. Joining a guild unlocks its own skills, armour and quests, so faction choice influences how the hero develops and which people become allies. The wider region also contains additional factions and political interests, leaving room to encounter groups beyond the three main paths.

Character development uses glory earned by completing quests and defeating opponents. The character screen divides growth among attributes such as Melee Combat, Ranged, Cunning, Influence, Toughness, Dexterity, Magic and Spirit; raising an attribute improves its related talents, but the next increase in that same attribute costs more glory. More specialised skills are learned from teachers in the world for gold and may require a minimum attribute value. Melee Combat supports piercing and slashing weapons and swords, while Ranged governs shotguns and muskets; Cunning improves pistols, crossbows, daggers and the chance of critical hits. Influence helps with Silver Tongue and Intimidate in conversations, and Toughness strengthens resistance to blades, bullets and magic. Legendary items found across the world can permanently improve talents as well.

Fighting shifts between close, ranged and magical attacks. A primary weapon occupies the right-hand slot, while a secondary weapon such as a pistol, crossbow or dagger can be equipped in the left hand for a dirty trick. In melee, immediately pressing attack again after a strike performs a stronger combo; weapon hotkeys also make it possible to switch between melee and ranged gear quickly. Magic depends on a guild’s traditions: Guardians wield elemental crystal magic, pirates use voodoo through blessings and dolls, and Demon Hunters draw on rune magic, glyphs and rune stones. Each tradition has its own ways to prepare spells and supporting equipment, including scroll crafting, potion-making, jewellery work and ritual learning. The combat toolkit consequently reflects the skills, teachers and faction the player has chosen to pursue.

The Southern Seas also give the captain practical work between quests and battles. Merchants buy and sell equipment and loot, and a Haggler skill can improve prices. A shovel and a treasure map allow a marked treasure quest to lead to a buried chest; a pickaxe lets a trained prospector gather ore, gold, jade or crystal from deposits. Books can contain clues to legendary items that permanently raise character talents, while beds restore health and can move time forward to night. The game includes smaller activities such as drinking, knife-throwing and arm wrestling, along with shipboard encounters involving sea monsters and cannon fire. Dialogue choices also affect the hero’s soul level, a measure of humanity that reflects decisions and responses and can shape how the story continues.

Conversation and theft each have their own character checks. Influence raises Silver Tongue and Intimidate, which can help persuade different people depending on the situation; dialogue can grant quests or alter how someone regards the hero. Dexterity supports pickpocketing, where the required skill must exceed the target's difficulty, and distraction through conversation comes before the attempt. Locks use a separate tumbler puzzle: each pin stays raised only when the correct sequence is found, and a mistake can reset progress. These activities create alternatives to direct combat when dealing with people and locked containers, while requiring investment in the relevant talents and careful attention to how a character responds.
