Lost Soul Aside is a single-player action-adventure RPG about Kaser, a young man whose attempt to resist an oppressive emperor is overtaken by an invasion from beyond his world. Kaser and his sister Louisa are part of a rebel group preparing to disrupt the emperor’s birthday celebration. A meteor storm strikes, Louisa’s soul is taken, and Kaser encounters Arena, a mysterious dragon-like being who becomes an unlikely ally. The attackers are the Voidrax, dimensional invaders that drain the souls of other species. Kaser’s immediate goal is to recover his sister, while the conflict expands into a struggle to defend humanity. His journey crosses unfamiliar worlds and dangerous dimensions, linking the personal loss at the story’s centre to the wider invasion.
Combat is built around direct control of Kaser in fast melee encounters against groups of creatures and larger bosses. He can use light and heavy attacks, dodge incoming blows, and parry with careful timing. Rather than treating each weapon as a separate loadout for a whole fight, the game lets him switch between weapons during a combo. Each has different stats and attack patterns, so changing weapons can alter a string’s reach, pace and impact while it is already underway. A sword provides a balanced starting point; the greatsword trades speed for force and can block or parry; the poleblade extends reach and supports aerial movement; and the scythe emphasises quick repositioning. Learning enemy movements and choosing when to evade, defend or continue attacking shapes each exchange.
Arena adds another layer to those combinations. Kaser can unlock Arena Power abilities that improve damage, healing or protection, giving the companion a practical role in the fight as well as a place in the story. Arena therefore remains mechanically present through both support abilities and the Fusion Gauge attack. Burst Pursuit rewards precise button timing during weapon combos with a stronger follow-up. Meanwhile, attacks and abilities build a Fusion Gauge. Spending it calls on Arena’s claws for a powerful strike, and upgrades expand the techniques available through this system. These mechanics encourage the player to keep attacking and vary a sequence, then use the resulting resource at a useful moment. Survival upgrades also improve dodging and parrying, connecting defensive skill to character development rather than making combat growth only about dealing more damage.

Experience points open choices in Kaser’s skill tree, where players can select attributes and abilities to suit their preferred approach. Weapon skills extend what each weapon can do, while special fragments found during the adventure let players customise weapons. Fragments may change a weapon’s appearance or affect combat and healing, so collecting them feeds directly into experimentation with a build. The systems work together: a player can favour a particular weapon’s range, improve the abilities that support it, and add fragments that reinforce a chosen style. The game presents this as gradual character evolution across the mission, with new options opening as Kaser advances. It leaves room to adjust how he fights as the available weapons and abilities grow.
Between battles, Kaser travels through snow-covered landscapes, old ruins and places marked by alien relics. Moving between worlds and dimensions takes his search for Louisa beyond the city where the meteor storm struck. The change of setting also brings new enemies and large boss encounters into the route, with puzzles interrupting the sequence of fights. These spaces carry evidence of worlds affected by forces Kaser is only beginning to understand. He meets allies and enemies with histories of their own, while his bond with Arena develops alongside the immediate task of finding Louisa. The route has a practical rhythm as well as a story purpose: explore a place, face what blocks the path, gain experience or fragments and carry those improvements into the next confrontation. A new landscape changes what Kaser sees, while the weapons and abilities he brings with him determine how he handles danger there.
Large fights put the timing systems under particular pressure. Rose Queen, Holy Knight Commander Victor and Ancient Mecha are among the opponents Kaser can face. Against a boss, he can launch a foe into the air, swap weapons while an attack string continues, and watch for a chance to answer an incoming blow. A last-moment dodge can trigger a counterattack. A precise block against a powerful strike, timed to its warning, can stagger the enemy; a blue glow on Kaser signals a Burst Pursuit opportunity. Those cues turn a fight into a sequence of decisions rather than an uninterrupted attack. Arena's powers and the Fusion Gauge offer stronger responses once built up, while skill choices and weapon fragments let Kaser return to the next encounter with a different set of strengths. A new weapon changes the reach and timing Kaser can bring to the next threat. The heavy greatsword and mobile poleblade, for example, demand different distances from the same opponent.
