About Judgment

Former defense lawyer Takayuki Yagami now works as a private detective in Kamurocho, where a string of murders draws him back toward the case that ended his legal career. He and his partner Masaharu Kaito investigate through interviews, evidence searches, tails and chases, alongside street-level combat and smaller cases around the city.

Takayuki Yagami once built a career as a defense lawyer, but the acquittal that made him famous was followed by his former client Shinpei Okubo being accused of murdering his girlfriend. Three years later, Yagami works as a private detective in Kamurocho with Masaharu Kaito, a former member of the Matsugane Family. When a string of murders shakes the district, the Genda Law Office brings Yagami into the case. Ryuzo Genda remains his connection to the legal world, while police detective Kazuya Ayabe and organized-crime investigator Mitsuru Kuroiwa approach the case from inside law enforcement. Their competing positions give the story its central tension: Yagami must pursue evidence outside the courtroom while confronting the personal and professional failure that made him leave it.

The investigation is built from distinct detective tasks rather than combat alone. Yagami searches locations for clues, photographs details, questions witnesses and presents evidence when a claim needs to be tested. He may tail a suspect while staying out of sight, chase a fleeing target, disguise himself, or pick a lock to reach a restricted place. Photo opportunities ask the player to frame a requested subject; evidence prompts later ask Yagami to connect what he has learned to a claim. These sequences turn a lead into a concrete action: gather an item, observe a person, or connect a statement with something already found. The main case sets their order, but side cases reuse the same abilities for smaller jobs taken through the detective agency.

Side cases and Friendships make Kamurocho's residents part of the detective work. Friendships begin when Yagami helps people he meets around town; completing one can raise local reputation, provide a reward, and sometimes unlock further help. Reputation matters because some side cases require a stronger standing in the district. These relationships also feed into the KamuroGo app, which tracks City and Battle challenges such as talking with residents, eating at restaurants, taking photographs and using lockpicks. The structure encourages the player to revisit streets and businesses for concrete tasks, while optional requests expand the casework beyond the serial-murder plot. Yagami's work therefore includes both following a high-stakes investigation and resolving the everyday problems that build trust with people across the neighborhood. With the right skills, greetings from friends can also refill part of the EX gauge, and some stationary friends can assist Yagami during a nearby fight.

Fights use two styles with different purposes. Crane spreads attacks across groups, while Tiger concentrates on a single opponent; Yagami can switch between them during a battle. Light attacks create rush combos and stronger finishers can knock opponents down. A grab lets him pummel, throw or shove an enemy, which can open space when several attackers close in. Attacks fill the EX meter. When a contextual prompt appears, Yagami can spend meter on an EX Action, often using the nearby surroundings or a weapon, or activate EX Boost for a temporary increase to attack power, speed and durability. Weapons have their own moves and can break, so their use is a short-term choice within the broader hand-to-hand system. Combat rewards changing target and style as the shape of a fight shifts.

Skill Points provide the game's longer-term progression. Fighting, shopping, minigames and completion challenges all award SP, which the player spends in the Skills menu on attribute improvements, new moves and quality-of-life abilities. Health and attack upgrades make Yagami more resilient or forceful; other purchases can speed EX-gauge growth, improve quickstep, or help locate nearby codes through the minimap. Extracts add temporary effects and have related crafting improvements in the skill list. This creates a separate layer of planning from the EX meter: SP permanently shapes the abilities Yagami brings to a case, while EX is earned and spent during an individual fight. The menu lets players decide which parts of detective work or combat to strengthen as their activity in the city accumulates.

Kamurocho's optional systems give the player structured pursuits beyond cases and combat. Drone Racing lets Yagami assemble a machine from a frame, motor, propellers, turbo and electronic speed control, then test builds alone or race opponents. A Grand Prix consists of multiple races, and the drone can be retooled between events as the player balances speed, handling and durability. KamuroGo adds a checklist of City, Battle and shop challenges, while the Quickstarter app tracks projects the player can fund. Restaurants, arcades and other minigames offer additional activities around the same streets. These systems each have their own loop—building and piloting a drone, completing tracked objectives or supporting projects—so optional play can be pursued for its own rules rather than serving as another version of detective investigation. At the Drone Lab, new parts cost money and materials; a frame sets the capacity and durability of a build, while other parts alter speed, handling and boost. On the course, blue pads increase speed and green pads repair damage, so choosing a route matters alongside top speed.
