About Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition

After leaving Myrtana with Xardas, the Nameless Hero returns to a realm where humans and orcs are growing apart again. Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition is a standalone follow-up in which he undertakes quests, develops combat and other skills, and tries to unite the peoples in a new empire.

Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods Enhanced Edition continues the story of Gothic 3 as a standalone add-on, returning to the Nameless Hero and Xardas after they have left Myrtana. In their exile beyond the ordinary world, the two watch events among mortals and see relations between humans and orcs deteriorate. Their disagreement turns into a fight, and the Hero wakes again in Myrtana. He now sets out to bring the divided realm together under a new empire shared by humans and orcs. That political aim gives the adventure its direction: the player enters a country where the previous struggle has not settled its tensions, meets familiar allies and other locals, and decides which tasks to take on while moving through the renewed conflict. Forsaken Gods is a separate Gothic game with its own Myrtana campaign.

Myrtana is the setting for the return. The Hero moves between settlements and the country around them, encountering people with local concerns as well as larger interests in the human–orc divide. Places such as Ardea, Silden, Geldern, Montera, Trelis, Gotha, Faring and Vengard each have their own characters, traders and teachers. Some trainers become available after a particular local task, so following a job to its conclusion can open access to a skill or service as well as progress the story. New quests and monsters distinguish this standalone adventure, while returning characters connect it with the earlier journey. The broad routine is to speak with people, gather a task, cross the surrounding landscape, deal with its obstacles and return with the result. The changing state of the realm gives those practical errands a place in the wider attempt to bring its people together.

Quests and dangerous encounters also feed character growth. Completing missions and defeating hostile creatures grant experience; gaining a level provides learning points that can be spent with trainers. Training can raise attributes or unlock skills, and teachers may ask for gold or a favour as well as the necessary experience. Strength affects which close-range weapons the Hero can use and how much damage they deal; hunting skill supports bows and crossbows; ancient knowledge governs access to stronger magic. Other abilities cover smithing, alchemy and thievery. Requirements matter: a trainer may expect the right attribute or a prior skill before teaching an advanced technique. The Hero begins with abilities that include sword fighting, large weapons, staff fighting, bow use, simple lockpicking, smithing and healing alchemy, along with the spells Call Animals and Poison. The player can add to this foundation through later training.

Combat offers close weapons, shields, bows, crossbows, staves and magic, and the Enhanced Edition revises gameplay and combat with additional moves. The starting skill set includes sword training, large-weapon and staff skills, bow use and two spells; later training can open more advanced fighting techniques or other schools. Attributes and learned skills affect weapon access and attack strength, while equipment brings its own requirements and protective properties. A weapon, shield, spell or consumable can be prepared for quicker use, and the character’s reserves include health, mana and endurance. That range lets the player build toward a chosen approach, while opponents can make a different tool useful. Ranged ammunition includes ordinary arrows and bolts as well as poison, fire and explosive effects; a headknock arrow can knock an enemy down. Equipment also ranges from one-handed blades to large weapons, bows, crossbows, armour and shields.

Quests connect progression with how the Hero behaves among settlements. Theft has consequences: if a non-player character sees him taking goods or emptying a chest in most houses, that witness may try to stop him, and being caught can turn a quiet search into a fight. When nobody sees the theft, other residents do not treat the Hero as caught. Thievery skills support stealing and opening locks, while the Hero can also choose to leave a settlement’s property untouched. Conversations and local tasks introduce people who may trade, train or offer more work; some services become available only after a related task. Drawing a weapon in a town is another way to provoke a response, so keeping equipment lowered while speaking or moving among residents can matter. These rules make ordinary interactions part of the player’s approach to the realm’s divided settlements.

Trade depends on which vendor the Hero visits and when he returns. Merchants have defined stock, with different characters specialising in weapons, armour, food, alchemy, magic, hunting or general supplies. Their inventories do not reshuffle completely on every visit: after at least forty-eight in-game hours pass without speaking with a trader, some goods and gold can be replenished or added, and the newly added items are chosen at random. A town can therefore offer a familiar set of essentials while a later visit may bring extra stock. Specific traders also become available after certain quests or events, linking access to some purchases with work elsewhere in Myrtana. The player can check several vendors, decide where to spend gold, and return after time has passed to see whether a shop has restocked.
