About Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut
Set in 2027, Deus Ex: Human Revolution follows security chief Adam Jensen after an attack leaves him augmented. Working for Sarif Industries, he investigates a conspiracy amid rising conflict over human enhancement. The Director’s Cut integrates The Missing Link chapter and revises boss encounters, while retaining the original action role-playing campaign’s flexible stealth, combat, hacking and social systems.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a science-fiction action role-playing game set in 2027, when mechanical augmentation is advancing faster than society can agree on its place. Adam Jensen begins as security chief at Sarif Industries, a biotechnology company whose work makes augmentations more widely available. An attack on Sarif leaves Jensen critically injured, and he returns to duty with extensive mechanical enhancements. His investigation draws him into a conflict involving corporate power, public resistance to augmentation and a conspiracy that reaches beyond the company. The story is told through missions, conversations, discoveries in the environment and information gathered from the people and devices Jensen encounters.
The Director’s Cut contains the complete Human Revolution campaign and folds the separate Missing Link chapter into its narrative sequence. That chapter follows Jensen during a period when he is cut off from his usual equipment and allies, so the change of circumstances temporarily alters what abilities and resources are available. Tongs’s Rescue mission is also integrated into the campaign. This edition further revises the boss encounters, which in the original release offered fewer ways to apply the game’s varied approaches. The Director’s Cut adds alternatives to those confrontations, alongside balance and enemy-behaviour adjustments, visual updates, developer commentary and second-screen features where supported by a platform. These are edition-level additions to Human Revolution; they are distinct from the separate story and modes released for Mankind Divided.
Missions generally give Jensen an objective and an area to investigate, while leaving room to choose how to reach it. He can move through guarded spaces quietly, use cover to avoid sightlines, disable or pass enemies, or engage with lethal and non-lethal weapons. Routes may lead through doors, vents, elevated positions or secured areas opened by hacking. The surroundings can also provide usable objects and alternate paths. Alarms and enemy awareness affect how dangerous a space becomes, so observing patrol patterns and reading the layout can matter as much as weapon choice. The campaign’s structure combines larger story assignments with city hub areas where Jensen can speak with residents and pursue optional missions.

Augmentations let the player shape Jensen around different ways of handling these situations. The upgrade tree groups abilities by body area, including the cranium, eyes, arms, legs, skin, torso and back; some upgrades improve perception or movement, while others support hacking, combat or social encounters. Experience from missions, discoveries and other actions yields Praxis points for unlocking or improving abilities. Praxis Kits can also be bought at L.I.M.B. clinics, using Credits that could otherwise go toward weapons or supplies. Active augmentations draw on energy, making their use a resource decision as well as a tactical one. The Director’s Cut’s integrated Missing Link chapter temporarily changes Jensen’s access to equipment and augmentations, then returns that progression to the campaign afterward.
Electronic locks, computers and security systems create a separate infiltration puzzle. During a hack, Jensen captures connected network nodes while a diagnostic program may detect the intrusion and trace back toward the entry point. The player weighs the detection chance and capture time against the value of reaching a registry, which can open a door, expose messages or alter security equipment such as cameras. Limited-use programs can instantly capture a node or briefly halt the diagnostic process. A failed attempt can trigger an alarm and lock the device for a cooldown, so a hacking-focused build still involves risk management. Passwords and alternate routes can provide ways around a device when the player would rather preserve an attempt or lack a suitable upgrade.
Conversations add another route through the investigation. Some key characters participate in structured dialogues where the player considers what they have said and selects an approach intended to persuade them. Jensen’s social augmentation can reveal additional response choices in these encounters. Elsewhere, optional objectives and environmental records provide context about the people and organizations involved, and may bring rewards or change what Jensen learns. At city hubs, clinics and merchants connect exploration to progression: Credits can purchase Praxis Kits and equipment, while found weapons and supplies reduce the need to buy every tool. The result is a campaign in which dialogue, exploration and resource management sit alongside stealth and shooting as practical ways to pursue an objective.

The Director’s Cut keeps these interconnected systems within Human Revolution’s story of Jensen’s investigation, while making a specific structural change through the inserted Missing Link chapter. Its redesigned boss encounters allow the player’s accumulated abilities and prepared equipment to matter in more than one way, and the revised balance supports the campaign’s varied tactics. Platform implementations also include second-screen options: Nintendo’s Wii U description, for example, identifies GamePad hacking, an augmentation interface and map annotations. The exact second-screen features depend on the platform. Across the edition, the player still decides how Jensen develops, what information to seek, which routes to take and how much force to use as the investigation moves between corporate facilities and urban hubs.
