About Batman: Arkham Knight

Scarecrow returns to threaten Gotham, drawing Batman into a night of attacks alongside the armored Arkham Knight and a coalition of criminals. Across the city, Batman investigates incidents, confronts armed groups, and follows leads while moving between rooftops and streets in the Batmobile.

Batman: Arkham Knight places Bruce Wayne’s Batman in a Gotham City under coordinated threat. Scarecrow has returned and brings several of the Dark Knight’s enemies into the same conflict, while the armored Arkham Knight and his militia add a second, organized force to the crisis. Streets, rooftops, industrial sites, and police facilities become spaces for Batman's investigation and the criminal groups' operations. The story follows Batman as he responds to attacks, gathers information, and tries to prevent the city from falling under enemy control. The premise keeps the conflict focused on one long night in Gotham, with the main investigation intersecting with separate cases involving familiar figures such as Penguin, Two-Face, and Harley Quinn. These threads let the player move between the central threat and other crimes across the city.

Gotham is traversed on foot, by grapnel and cape, and in the Batmobile. Batman can grapple to high vantage points, launch into a glide, and steer through the skyline before landing or grappling onward. Detective Mode changes the view to reveal enemies, hiding places, structural weaknesses, and information about weapons or nearby equipment. Environmental scans can examine evidence and mark out-of-reach Riddler objects for later attention. These tools connect movement with investigation: a route across a building may reveal a way into a guarded room, while a scan can clarify what a panel or object does before Batman acts. The city map and active objectives help orient travel, but the important decisions happen locally, where sightlines, cover, vents, ledges, and machinery shape the available approach. New areas and abilities become accessible as the story and equipment progress.

When Batman is surrounded by ordinary thugs, combat is built around maintaining a chain of attacks and responding to incoming strikes. Consecutive hits and counters grow the combo meter; taking a hit breaks that chain, while a filled meter enables a Special Takedown that immediately incapacitates an opponent. Enemies bring different weapons and defenses, so Batman’s punches, counters, cape stun, throws, and gadgets give him ways to keep the group from closing in at once. Some takedowns require a built combo, and upgrades can change when those moves become available or extend their effect to several grounded enemies. Batman earns experience through activities across the game and spends the resulting WayneTech points on combat abilities, suit improvements, gadgets, and vehicle systems. This creates a shared progression track: story cases, combat encounters, stealth rooms, and Riddler puzzles all contribute toward customizing how Batman handles later threats.

Armed groups call for a different rhythm. In Predator encounters Batman studies patrols from above, below, or behind cover, then chooses a quiet takedown before the remaining guards understand what happened. Gargoyles and steel beams provide elevated vantage points; floor grates and connecting vents let him move beneath or between parts of a room. He can strike from a ledge, from a vent, from behind a corner, or from above an unaware enemy, then relocate when the group notices a hanging body or searches his last position. Detective Mode helps identify people and their equipment through the environment, while gadgets can create openings or interfere with a guarded position. The encounter is therefore about reducing threats while tracking what the others can see and hear. Fear Multi-Takedowns expand that approach later, allowing Batman to use an opening to neutralize several nearby sentries before they can respond.

The Batmobile is both transport and a separate set of driving and combat systems. In Pursuit Mode it accelerates through Gotham, uses an afterburner for a brief boost, and can eject Batman upward so he continues into a glide. Battle Mode shifts the vehicle into a more controlled stance for aiming its weapons at hostile drones and other targets. The vehicle also assists some encounters from nearby, and remote control lets Batman operate it at a distance within a limited range. Its role extends beyond fighting: specialized equipment supports investigation and rescues, and the car can carry dangerous criminals or civilians to safety. These functions give the Batmobile jobs in traversal, environmental problems, and street confrontations, while Batman’s own movement and gadgets remain necessary inside buildings and stealth areas. Separate WayneTech categories improve the car’s armor, speed boost, ejection, and weapon systems as well as Batman’s personal equipment.

Alongside the main investigation, Most Wanted cases send Batman after crimes tied to Gotham’s wider criminal network, while Riddler challenges test observation and the use of the environment. Detective scans can mark objects that cannot yet be reached, and returning with the right equipment can turn a clue into a solvable interaction. Combat, Predator, Batmobile, and mixed challenges also appear as optional activities, using the same core abilities in more focused scenarios. Progress in these activities feeds the WayneTech upgrade system, where some improvements require earlier upgrades or particular equipment before they can be purchased. The resulting path is not only a sequence of fights: it alternates between reading a scene, selecting a route, using a gadget or vehicle tool, and following the next lead. Gotham’s bridges, streets, rooftops, and enclosed interiors form the connected space through which these investigations unfold.
