About Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand
A nameless worker finds a Gauntlet that can shape sand into weapons and movement, then joins Nyaal in resisting the gods ruling Atlas. Explore ruined lands, fight Wraiths through Momentum-driven combat, customize abilities with Essence Stones and enter the added Source challenges in the Reign of Sand version.
Atlas Fallen begins with an Unnamed laborer in a society where people without identities spend their lives digging Essence from the ground. Discovery of the Gauntlet, a relic that channels Essence into sand-shaping power, turns that imposed role into a chance to resist the gods. The journey crosses a broken, sun-scorched world where old stories survive in ruins and buried places. Humanity lives under divine rule, and the Sun God Thelos is the central power behind the Wraiths that stalk the land. Nyaal, the entity within the Gauntlet, guides the bearer toward a confrontation with that order. The story follows the rise from nameless worker to a figure able to challenge gods, while fragments of the world's history give context to the conflict. It can be played alone or in two-player co-op, with the same desert expedition and action-RPG campaign at its centre.
The Gauntlet makes movement part of how the world is read. The bearer skims over dunes at speed, dashes through the air and uses the artifact to raise buried structures, opening routes across broad stretches of sand. Exploration moves between settlements, ancient ruins, caves, castles, cities and divine architecture rather than remaining in one uninterrupted desert vista. Along the way, the player searches for traces of the past and materials that feed equipment and Essence Stone customization. The shifting terrain supports a rhythm of travelling, meeting people, pursuing quests and reaching Wraith encounters. Sand is both the landscape and a usable force: the same power that carries the hero between destinations also forms weapons for close combat. The world's scattered structures and human communities give the campaign places to investigate between confrontations, while the old divine conflict shapes what those journeys uncover.
Combat centres on Wraiths, monstrous creatures serving the gods, and asks the player to respond to their different attacks rather than rely on one fixed weapon. The Gauntlet forms sand into shifting weapon forms; the player equips two at a time from the Dunecleaver, Sandwhip and Knuckledust. Aerial movement lets the bearer strike from above or reposition around larger enemies. Striking fills Momentum; higher Momentum increases damage dealt and damage received, so the player weighs stronger offense against added risk. Red attack cues can be parried; repeated successful parries crystallize a Wraith, opening it to critical hits. Wraiths have distinct behaviours, body parts and strengths, so the player watches their tells, chooses where to pressure them, and times dodges or counters around their attacks. The Morpher attacks quickly while airborne, then uses heavier melee strikes on the ground; the Transmuter speeds up after a body part is destroyed.

Essence Stones shape the build around the Gauntlet. These magical objects add attacks, effects and modifiers, letting the player adjust damage, tricks, Momentum, survival and healing for the situation. They can be obtained through Fusion by bringing together a Formula, materials and Essence Cores, and also turn up from the Traveling Vendor, chests or quests. Stones interact with Momentum: hitting Wraiths fills the gauge, and its higher levels increase the bearer's power while also raising incoming damage. Active Stones can offer a direct ability; passive choices alter how the build behaves, so one setup may focus on controlling groups while another supports damage or recovery. Build Presets let the player save several combinations and switch while out of combat. Reign of Sand adds 25 Stones, including abilities that summon damaging creatures, heal nearby allies, immobilize enemies or trade safety for stronger effects. Experimenting with these combinations supplies the main buildcrafting path, letting the bearer tailor an active ability and passive effects to a chosen combat approach.
Reign of Sand is the current expanded version of Atlas Fallen, delivered as a free overhaul that replaced the original base-game release; returning owners received the update, and it is included for new players. It reworks the opening and voice cast, revises pacing and combat encounters, and adds the Source, a challenge realm entered through special Rifts. Inside, the player takes the form of Nyaal, unlocks Wraith abilities such as a tornado-form Shellshocker and a damaging dash as a Mawer, then combines those powers with sand surfing to clear challenges and uncover fragments about the War of Gods. After completing the story once, New Game+ carries equipment, materials, currency and character progress into another campaign with altered enemy populations and new upgrades; Nyaal's Nightmare is an optional, tougher difficulty exclusive to that mode. These additions belong to Reign of Sand and are not features of the 2023 base-game launch as first released.
The Reign of Sand version also adds Corruption Breaches to the open world, where the Watcher can bring unexpected Wraith threats during exploration. Each Breach is a combat trial with its own modifier and objective, so the rules can change from encounter to encounter. One example pairs increased Momentum gain with a restriction on jumping, turning a familiar fight into a test of movement under altered conditions. Other modifiers offer buffs or impose debuffs that shape how the player manages an enemy group. Completing these challenges can reward materials, unique Essence Stones and customization options, giving the player reasons to engage with combat events encountered while crossing the desert. Breaches also make progression less dependent on the main quest route: the player can interrupt travel to enter a short, self-contained test, adapt to its particular conditions and carry its rewards back into the wider build.
