Mr C reaches Chantal and Hutch after surviving Ray's attack. They treat his injury and supply equipment while he orders the warden's death and further work in Las Vegas. He also presses Duncan Todd to finish the attempt on Dougie. Gordon's team changes course after learning that Major Briggs's body has been found in Buckhorn, then hears that the prisoner they interviewed has escaped. In Las Vegas, the detectives question Bushnell about Dougie's background and obtain fingerprints from Cooper's coffee cup. They trace Ike to a motel and arrest him, removing the immediate attacker while leaving the people who hired him beyond the investigation's reach.
Frank, Hawk and Bobby visit Betty Briggs to ask about Cooper's final meeting with the major. She has been expecting the visit for years and gives them a hidden metal tube her husband left behind. Bobby knows how to open it, revealing directions toward Jack Rabbit's Palace, a time and the repeated name Cooper. The instructions bring back his memories of exploring the woods with his father. In Buckhorn, Tammy questions Bill Hastings about the alternate place he and Ruth entered. He identifies Briggs from a photograph and describes supplying coordinates before a terrible attack. His account joins the dead major, the unexplained ring and Cooper's disappearance in the same inquiry, without making their connection any easier to explain.
