Mr C and Ray drive away from prison, discussing the information Ray has memorised. After they stop on a dark road, the double demands the numbers and tries to force the issue with his gun. Ray has prepared for him and shoots first. Dark, soot-covered figures gather around the fallen body, working over it while Ray watches in terror. BOB's face appears within the double's opened chest. Ray escapes and reports to Jeffries that the man may be dead, though the strange help he has received makes him uncertain. After the Roadhouse performance, Mr C rises again, leaving the attack without the final result Ray expected.
The story moves to the first atomic bomb test in New Mexico. The blast gives way to seething images of fire, particles and a figure expelling a stream containing BOB's face. In a separate place above a purple sea, the Fireman watches the disturbance and produces a golden sphere bearing Laura's image. Señorita Dido kisses it and sends it toward the world. Years later in New Mexico, an egg hatches into a winged creature. A Woodsman enters a radio station, kills the staff and broadcasts a repeated message that sends listeners into unconsciousness. A teenage girl lies asleep as the creature crawls into her mouth, and the Woodsman walks back into the darkness.
