A noisy group of Icelandic guests keeps Cooper awake at the Great Northern, but the next day's evidence demands his attention. The blood on Leo's shirt belongs to Jacques Renault rather than Laura. A photograph and the red curtains in a magazine image point toward Jacques's cabin, sending Cooper, Truman, Hawk and Doc Hayward into the woods. They stop at the Log Lady's home, where she describes two girls and two men passing nearby, followed by another man and terrible screams. At the cabin, a record plays beside Waldo the myna bird, and Cooper finds a damaged casino chip matching the fragment from Laura's stomach.
Audrey forces her way into a job at the perfume counter so she can follow Laura and Ronette's route through the department store. Donna and James ask Maddy to search Laura's room, and she discovers a hidden recording. Bobby's session with Jacoby becomes unexpectedly painful when he describes Laura's despair and the pressure she put on him to supply drugs. Norma and Ed step back from their relationship as Hank returns. At the hotel, Ben and Catherine discuss burning the mill while Ben separately assists Josie against Catherine. Shelly shoots Leo when he attacks her at home. Cooper's return offers another surprise: Audrey is waiting in his bed, asking him to let her stay.
