Two months after the Vinci shootout, the authorities declare Caspere's murder solved and use the announcement to advance Geldof's political ambitions. The surviving detectives have been scattered. Ray has left the force and works for Frank, Ani has been moved to evidence duties, and Paul investigates insurance fraud. Their new routines do little to settle what happened, and Ani continues looking for Vera away from the official case.
Photographs from Vera's belongings connect the missing woman to wealthy party guests and the blue diamonds. Katherine Davis quietly brings the three investigators back together because she suspects the closure served corrupt officials. Ray agrees partly because Davis offers help in the custody dispute. She also tells him that Gena's attacker has been identified through DNA, meaning the man Ray killed on Frank's information was someone else. Ray's years of dependence on Frank now rest on a terrible falsehood.
Ray follows Blake and discovers women being delivered through Pitlor's office to Osip and Tony Chessani. His violent questioning of Pitlor exposes parties used to gather blackmail material on powerful men. Ani asks her sister for a way inside, while Paul learns that Dixon had been asking about the diamonds before the team found them. Ani and Paul then reach a remote property linked to Vera and discover a shed bearing signs of captivity and violence. Ray ends the episode at Frank's door, demanding a conversation about the old tip.
