Geralt visits Codringher and Fenn to find the person directing Rience. The investigators point him toward the castle at Vuilpanne, although their information leaves the employer's identity hidden. Inside its dungeon, Geralt discovers a young woman imprisoned amid webbing and a creature assembled from human body parts. He kills the monster and takes the surviving girl away. Trying to question her brings another disturbance: she believes she is Ciri, although the real princess is travelling elsewhere with Yennefer.
Their journey to Aretuza is interrupted by Ciri's visions and her urge to act on them. Yennefer attempts to buy a portal from Keira, but Ciri sees the danger facing a captive dwarf and frees him. Yennefer kills his captor during the resulting trouble, ending their chance of an uncomplicated passage. She takes Ciri to the place where her childhood home stood and explains more of her own past, asking the girl to consider the consequences of intervening before she acts again.
Jaskier meets Radovid, whose personal interest in him overlaps with Redania's interest in Ciri. The bard suggests paying Codringher and Fenn for information that could remove Rience and help earn Geralt's trust. Rience reaches the investigators first. With his hands healed, he forces them to reveal what they told the witcher, then burns their office with both inside.
