Season synopsis

The prison becomes a home for Rick’s group and the Woodbury survivors, until an illness spreads through the cell blocks and a walker attack kills several residents. Carol secretly kills and burns Karen and David, believing their infection could endanger everyone; Rick later sends her away. The Governor returns with a new camp, captures Michonne and Hershel, then leads an assault on the prison. Rick tries to negotiate, but the Governor beheads Hershel and the groups fight. Michonne stabs the Governor; Lilly finishes him with a gunshot. The prison falls. Rick escapes with Carl, while Tyreese gets Judith away from the prison.
The scattered survivors travel in pairs and small groups toward Terminus, following signs that promise sanctuary. Carol reunites with Tyreese, who is travelling with Lizzie, Mika and Judith, but discovers Lizzie has killed her sister because she thinks walkers can be friends. Carol shoots Lizzie, then tells Tyreese that she killed Karen and David. Daryl joins a band of Claimers after Beth disappears; later, Rick, Carl and Michonne encounter them on the road. The Claimers capture them and threaten to beat Daryl and sexually assault Michonne and Carl. Rick bites Joe’s throat and kills him; Daryl and Michonne kill the remaining Claimers except Dan, whom Rick kills after he prepares to assault Carl. At Terminus, Rick notices his friends’ possessions among the residents. Rick, Carl, Michonne and Daryl are forced into a boxcar with Glenn, Maggie and other captured companions.
