Season synopsis

The boxcar at Terminus holds Rick’s group for slaughter, but Carol attacks the settlement and gives them a chance to escape. They flee with the residents’ leader, Gareth, still pursuing them. At a church they meet Father Gabriel, whose past has left him isolated from other survivors. Gareth’s group abducts Bob, cuts off part of his leg and eats it, then abandons him outside the church. Bob tells the others he was bitten and later dies. Rick leads a counterattack at the church and kills Gareth; the rest of Rick’s party kill the remaining hunters. Abraham’s group presses on toward Washington because Eugene claims to know how to stop the outbreak, but Eugene admits he fabricated the cure story. Abraham strikes him, then turns the group back toward the others.
In Atlanta, Beth is held at a hospital run by Officer Dawn Lerner, who demands obedience from patients and staff. A prisoner exchange goes wrong when Beth stabs Dawn; Dawn reflexively shoots Beth, and Daryl kills Dawn in response. The group leaves with Beth’s body, then Tyreese dies after being bitten during a trip with Noah. The survivors eventually reach Alexandria, where Deanna Monroe offers them homes and jobs behind guarded walls. Rick struggles to trust a community that has not faced the threats outside, and his attempt to protect Jessie from her abusive husband Pete ends with Pete killing Deanna’s husband Reg. Deanna orders Rick to execute Pete. Rick does so as Morgan arrives at Alexandria, while a separate threat—the Wolves—moves closer.
