Cromwell's closure of religious houses brings Anne into a dispute with an adviser she once supported. She wants to know why their wealth is going to the king rather than helping education and the poor. Cromwell does not welcome her challenge, and her father is alarmed that she has quarrelled with someone so close to Henry. Anne is also struggling with the weakening of her marriage. George advises her to hide her anxiety, and she tries a lively party and a dance with Henry as a way back to their former closeness. Her effort brings them together for a night without settling the fears surrounding her position.
Henry and Brandon leave the pressures of court for Wolf Hall, where Sir John Seymour receives them warmly. Henry's attention settles on Jane, giving the visit a purpose beyond hunting and hospitality. Elsewhere, Catherine is dying with Elizabeth Darrell beside her. A vision of Mary offers comfort, but Darrell finds no daughter in the room. Catherine dictates her wishes and sends a final loving letter to Henry before she dies. Wyatt later finds Darrell dead, losing his own chance of a future with her. At court, Anne welcomes the news of Catherine's death and announces another pregnancy. She believes the greatest obstacle has gone while Henry is already seeking a place for Jane in her household.
