Little Carmine's attempt to mediate the housing dispute fails, and Tony orders men to vandalize Carmine's restaurant. Carmine retaliates by stopping work at the Esplanade. Tony is willing to wait out the lost earnings, but Johnny Sack privately suggests killing Carmine. During Junior's trial, Bobby selects a married juror as a target, and Eugene helps intimidate him. Paulie discovers that Carmine does not recognize him, exposing Johnny's claims of friendship and influence as empty. After learning that Minn Matrone keeps cash at home, Paulie breaks in to steal it. She catches him, and he suffocates her with a pillow before bringing money to Tony to repair their relationship.

Carmela visits Furio to discuss decorating, and they nearly kiss before a contractor interrupts them. Furio later accompanies Tony and others to a casino. Beside the helicopter afterward, he grabs the drunken Tony and appears close to pushing him into the spinning rotor. Furio stops and claims Tony was standing dangerously near the blades. The next morning, he has returned to Italy without saying goodbye. Carmela's distress carries into dinner with Meadow, Finn and their friends, where she argues over their interpretation of Billy Budd. A birthday visit to the Plaza Hotel brings further tension between mother and daughter. Tony asks whether Meadow's growing independence is what Carmela wanted, and she answers without enthusiasm.
