With Michael gone, Andy becomes regional manager while Robert California runs Sabre, the company that owns Dunder Mifflin. Andy tries to win over the staff and Robert’s approval, even as Robert’s late-night demands and strange advice unsettle the office. Jim and Pam welcome their second child, Cece’s little brother Phillip, and Dwight’s attempt to become manager keeps colliding with Andy’s decisions. When Sabre sends a team to launch a Florida store, Dwight, Jim, Stanley, Ryan and Erin travel south; Erin stays behind in Florida as a live-in helper for Irene, an elderly woman she meets there.
The Florida plan falls apart after Robert shuts the store. Erin chooses to stay in Florida with Irene, and Andy drives down to win her back; she eventually agrees to return with him. Back in Scranton, Andy finds Nellie in his manager’s office. Robert refuses to remove her, and Andy quits in frustration. He and Erin later resume their relationship. With help from David Wallace, Andy stages a dramatic return: Wallace buys Dunder Mifflin back from Sabre and restores Andy as manager. Meanwhile, Dwight opens a free portrait studio to obtain a DNA sample from Angela’s baby, and races off with the discarded diaper, still uncertain whether he is the father.
