Jim takes a chance on a Philadelphia sports-marketing start-up, Athlead, and divides his time between the new job and Scranton. Pam worries about the strain on their marriage and the family’s future, while Darryl joins Jim’s venture. Andy leaves the branch for a long boat trip, then quits to chase a singing career; Erin, tired of waiting for him, starts a relationship with new salesman Pete. Dwight grows closer to Angela, who is married to Senator Robert Lipton and raising her son Philip. When Angela asks Oscar to investigate her husband, she discovers that Robert is having an affair with Oscar; Robert comes out, and the marriage ends. Oscar later gives Angela and Philip a place to stay as she struggles after the divorce, while she and Dwight rebuild their friendship.
Andy’s audition collapses into a viral embarrassment, and he eventually takes a job in Cornell’s admissions office. Jim and Pam confront their unhappiness, make a fresh start together, and Jim leaves Athlead to return to Scranton; Pam later agrees they can move to Austin so he can pursue the company again. David Wallace appoints Dwight regional manager after Jim recommends him. Dwight proposes to Angela, who confirms that Philip is his biological son. A year after the documentary airs, former coworkers return for Dwight and Angela’s wedding. Michael comes back as Dwight’s best man, Erin meets her birth parents, and the reunion closes with interviews and the staff choosing what comes next.
