Another hunter's pursuit damages the Razor Crest, forcing a stop in Mos Eisley for repairs. Peli Motto takes charge of the ship and discovers the child while the Mandalorian searches for work. At the cantina, inexperienced Toro Calican offers a share in his attempt to capture Fennec Shand. He needs the commission to enter the guild, while the Mandalorian needs money to leave Tatooine. They agree that Toro can claim the reputation if the job pays for the repairs.
Crossing the desert requires negotiation with Tusken Raiders before they reach the trap Fennec has prepared around another hunter's body. They survive her fire and capture her, but lose a speeder. The Mandalorian leaves to retrieve a mount, giving Fennec time to tell Toro what his partner is worth to the guild. Bringing in the child and the fugitive protecting it could make him famous. Rather than release Fennec to help, Toro shoots her and heads back to the hangar alone.
The Mandalorian returns to find Peli and the child held hostage. Toro intends to claim them all, but a flash grenade disrupts his control long enough for the Mandalorian to kill him. The child's hiding place prevents it from being caught in the exchange. Toro's money pays Peli for her work, and the Razor Crest leaves. Out in the desert, an unidentified figure approaches Fennec, whose future is not resolved here.
