Sorgan looks remote enough to hide the Mandalorian and the child, but another fugitive has already chosen it. Cara Dune, a former Rebel shock trooper, initially wants him gone before they recognise that neither is hunting the other. Farmers then offer a job defending their settlement from raiders. The isolation and lodging make it worth accepting, and he brings Cara into the arrangement. Omera welcomes them into her home, while the child begins playing with the village children instead of travelling under constant guard.
Tracks outside the settlement reveal the raiders' advantage: an Imperial AT-ST. Cara's first advice is to leave, but the farmers insist that they want to defend their homes. The two fighters train them, strengthen the barriers and dig a trap in the ponds. An attack on the raiders' camp draws the walker toward the village. When it stops short of the trap, Cara exposes herself to lure it forward. The machine sinks and falls, allowing the Mandalorian to destroy it and drive off the surviving attackers.
Several peaceful weeks suggest that the child could stay behind and grow up safely. Omera also offers the Mandalorian a place in the community, but he does not accept a settled life. His plan to leave the child collapses when a bounty hunter finds the village and aims at it. Cara kills the attacker before he can fire. The tracking fob proves the refuge is already known, so the Mandalorian takes the child with him and says goodbye.
