Season synopsis

Season six begins inside A’s dollhouse, where Emily, Hanna, Spencer, Aria and Mona are punished after their escape attempt. The girls set fire to Charles’s vault and get out, with Sara Harvey found captive there as well; the rescue does not end their trauma. Andrew is arrested but released, and the girls pursue clues about Charles through the DiLaurentis family and Radley. Alison and Jason learn that Charles is their older brother, while Mona tells the Liars he faked his death. At prom, Charles kidnaps Alison, and the girls, Mona and Sara trace her to A’s lair.
There they unmask A as CeCe Drake, who explains that she was born Charles, was sent to Radley as a child and later lived as Charlotte. Flashbacks show Bethany killed Toby’s mother at Radley. On the night Alison disappeared, CeCe struck Alison while mistaking her for Bethany, and Mrs. DiLaurentis buried Alison alive; Mona struck Bethany, thinking she was hitting Alison. CeCe describes taking over Mona’s A-game, and Sara was another Red Coat and the Black Widow. CeCe heads for the roof after her bomb plan fails, but Alison and the Liars persuade her to stop, and she surrenders.
The friends leave for college while Alison stays in Rosewood. Five years later, Alison asks them to support Charlotte’s release from psychiatric care, but Charlotte is murdered soon after gaining her freedom. A new tormentor demands her killer’s identity and kidnaps Hanna during the group’s attempted trap. Alison checks herself into hospital after frightening visions; her husband Elliott is revealed to be impersonating Wilden, working with Jessica’s twin, Mary Drake. Records identify Mary as Charlotte’s birth mother, complicating the family history the girls thought they had untangled.
