Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
With Alison back in Rosewood, Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer struggle to fit their old friendship around the secrets she tells about her disappearance. Mona gathers former targets of Alison’s bullying into a group against her, while the girls investigate the death of Mrs. DiLaurentis and the body buried in Alison’s grave: Bethany Young, a former Radley patient. Melissa admits she buried Bethany because she believed Spencer had killed her. As Alison’s stories unravel, the girls plan to tell the police what they know, but A disrupts them. Mona tells the Liars that she suspects Alison is A, then vanishes and is presumed dead; police arrest Spencer for Bethany’s murder.
Clues Mona left behind help the girls connect Alison to the supposed murder and clear Spencer, but the case keeps shifting: Hanna is arrested after her blood turns up on Mona’s clothes, and Alison is convicted of Mona’s murder. Aria, Emily and Spencer are arrested as accessories. A intercepts the van carrying the four girls and takes them to a hidden compound where rooms copy their bedrooms and cameras watch them. At the forced prom, Spencer works out that their captor uses the name Charles. The girls find Mona alive, dressed and acting as Alison, and try to escape. They reach the outside only to discover the dollhouse is ringed by an electrified fence, leaving their rescue unresolved at the season’s end.
