Without Khonshu's protection, Steven and Layla reach the excavation at Ammit's tomb and continue on foot. Steven tells Layla that Marc distanced himself because Khonshu wanted her as his next avatar. Their growing closeness leads to a kiss before they descend into the passageways. Inside, Steven reads the layout as an Eye of Horus and tries to work out a route towards the burial chamber. Fresh blood shows that Harrow's expedition has already encountered danger.
Undead priests attack in the tomb, separating Steven and Layla. While Steven reaches Alexander the Great's resting place, Layla encounters Harrow, who tells her that Marc was present when her father was killed. Steven retrieves Ammit's ushabti from Alexander's body, but Layla demands an explanation before leaving. Marc takes control and admits he was there. He says his partner murdered the archaeologists and shot him too. Harrow then arrives with his followers and shoots Marc.
Marc wakes in what appears to be a psychiatric hospital, where familiar people occupy unfamiliar roles and Harrow presents himself as a therapist. Objects around the ward echo his recent experiences, while an adventure film offers another unsettling resemblance. Marc escapes into the corridors and finds Steven trapped inside a sarcophagus. Their reunion makes them two separate figures in the same room. They pass another sealed sarcophagus without opening it, then come face to face with a talking hippopotamus-headed figure. Both scream at the encounter.
