Kim Shin and Eun-tak marry in the buckwheat garden, making vows before celebrating with the Grim Reaper, Deok-hwa and Secretary Kim. Their quiet happiness ends when Eun-tak sees a runaway truck heading toward a bus of children. She drives her car into its path, saving them at the cost of her own life. The Reaper understands that her unplanned sacrifice changed the deaths he had been sent to collect.
In the tea room, Eun-tak learns that this was her first life and that she has others left. Shin arrives devastated, but she asks him to keep living and promises to find him again. She refuses the tea that would erase her memories before leaving. Shin is left with the home they shared and the places they visited, mourning the bride who had only just returned to him.
Years later, the Reaper receives his final assignment: Sunny's soul. Shin says goodbye to his sister and his friend before they pass onward together. Their next lives bring them back as an actress and a detective, meeting without the old palace tragedy between them. Shin watches them find one another and continues waiting. In Quebec, a schoolgirl approaches him and recognizes him; Eun-tak has returned, remembering the promise she made.
