The Climb

Contains spoilers for this episode and earlier episodes.

Melisandre reaches the Brotherhood and learns that Thoros has repeatedly brought Beric back from death. She pays for Gendry and takes him away despite Arya's protests. At Riverrun, Frey envoys demand Robb's apology, Harrenhal and a marriage between Edmure and a Frey daughter in return for renewing their alliance. Edmure initially resists but agrees to the match. Roose Bolton allows Jaime to leave Harrenhal if he clears Bolton of responsibility for his maiming, while Brienne remains a prisoner. Theon's captor forces him through a guessing game, then admits that his torture is for amusement rather than justice.

Tywin threatens to make Loras a member of the Kingsguard, ending his ability to marry and inherit, until Olenna accepts the marriage to Cersei. Tyrion tells Sansa that they are to wed, with Shae present. Baelish tells Varys that he discovered Ros's spying and gave her to Joffrey; her body is shown pierced with crossbow bolts. Sansa watches Baelish's ship leave without her. At the Wall, Ygritte tells Jon she knows his old loyalties remain and insists that they must protect each other. During the climb, falling ice leaves them hanging from a rope that Orell tries to cut. Jon secures a hold, saves them and continues upward. He and Ygritte reach the top and kiss while looking out over the land south of the Wall.
