Season 8

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Niles and Daphne run from her wedding, but turn back to face Donny and Mel and the damage their choice has caused. Donny sues Daphne and Frasier, while Mel agrees to divorce Niles only if he keeps acting like her devoted husband in public. The secrecy prevents Niles and Daphne from dating openly, and Frasier tries to help by arranging their first date on the apartment rooftop. The season follows them as they move from a hidden romance toward a shared life, while Frasier repeatedly becomes involved in their private decisions.

Frasier receives a broadcasting lifetime achievement award, but a brief note from his former Harvard mentor sends him questioning what his career has meant. He decides to focus on his son Frederick, though their weekend together is difficult because Frasier has planned activities his teenager does not want. At the same time, Daphne’s eating habits worsen as she tries to live up to Niles’s idealized image of her. When she returns from a weight-loss camp, she explains that pressure to match his fantasy contributed to the problem; Niles initially rejects the idea, and Frasier helps him understand why Daphne is hurt.

Niles begins to recognize the pressure his idealized picture of Daphne has created. Frasier starts dating Claire French after tutoring Lana’s son Kirby as part of an arrangement to gain an introduction. He plans a romantic trip to Belize, but Martin, Niles and Daphne join them. Lana drives Frasier and Claire to the airport and causes an accident, making them miss their flight. Once there, Frasier frets over his room and restaurant booking while the others enjoy themselves. A dream of being in bed with Lana sends him to Lilith for advice, despite his seemingly promising relationship with Claire.
