Season synopsis

Season five begins with Frasier claiming to date a supermodel whom no one believes, then turns to the changes in his friends' lives. Roz discovers she is pregnant, and a misunderstanding at Niles's Halloween party has him believing Daphne is expecting; the father is a young college student, Rick, and Roz decides to have the baby. She tells Rick and later her mother, while Frasier's attempts to help sometimes disclose the news before she is ready. Niles's separation from Maris continues, leaving room for his unspoken hopes about Daphne, though his elaborate plan to stage a dinner date with a neighbour in “First Date” still hides his feelings from her. At the brothers' singles party, Roz's waters break; she is taken to hospital and gives birth to her daughter Alice.
The Crane family also faces Martin's 65th birthday, Frasier's thousandth radio broadcast and a reunion with relatives who expose an old feud. Niles's marriage counsellor is revealed to be having an affair with Maris, and Niles finally breaks with both of them. In the finale, new station manager Kenny asks Frasier to read an advertisement for sleep tea; Frasier refuses because it would sound like medical advice and is fired. Kenny soon rehires him, then loses his own job after backing the staff. Frasier gathers the on-air personalities to appeal to owner Joe Martin, but his speech persuades Martin to change the station's format, firing all of its on-air personalities. Frasier, Roz, Bulldog and Gil lose their jobs together, leaving their place at KACL uncertain as the season ends.
