Season 10

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Niles and Daphne begin the season already married, after eloping in Reno, but they repeat the ceremony in Seattle because Frasier and Martin feel hurt at having missed it. Daphne’s mother Gertrude also objects to their civil wedding, prompting another round of arrangements before she finally accepts it. As Daphne moves out of Frasier’s apartment, the household has to adjust to her absence. Niles suffers a serious heart problem and undergoes bypass surgery; the family waits at the hospital, remembering earlier medical crises and imagining the future he hopes to share with Daphne.

After surgery, Niles becomes cautious about ordinary activities, and Daphne worries that he is treating recovery as a reason to avoid living. Martin helps him recognize his fear, and Niles returns to his marriage with renewed resolve. Frasier’s work brings him into conflict with financial analyst Julia Wilcox, whose abrasive manner gradually gives way to an attraction neither handles well. Their relationship becomes more serious after Julia kisses Frasier, while Roz considers leaving KACL for a program-director job at another station. Frasier and Roz’s friendship is strained as he begins dating Julia and Roz questions the match.

Niles and Daphne start talking about having a child, but Daphne’s mother remains in their home and Daphne struggles to ask her to leave. Niles persuades Gertrude to move into her own apartment, clearing space for the couple to build a family. At KACL, Roz’s departure party makes her reconsider the new job, but her return brings a new problem: she gives Frasier an ultimatum to choose between her and Julia. Frasier chooses Julia, and Roz quits KACL to take the program-director position. The season ends with the friends separated at work and Niles and Daphne preparing for parenthood.
