Mr. Wrench fights off an attacker inside the overturned prison bus and escapes with Nikki, still chained to him. Yuri and Golem pursue them through the woods while Meemo kills passing witnesses. During a fight the next day, Wrench cuts off Yuri's ear with an axe. Nikki and Wrench use their connecting chain to behead Golem, then free themselves and leave the forest.
They reach a bowling alley where Nikki meets Paul Marrane. He shows her a kitten named Ray, speaks of reincarnation and asks her to oppose evil. He provides a car for her and Wrench to leave. A wounded Yuri arrives afterwards and hears that Marrane has a message from Helga Albrecht. Back at Emmit's house, Varga serves Sy tea. Sy later collapses and is hospitalized in a coma.
Months pass with Sy still unconscious and Emmit visiting him. Reminders of Ray begin appearing around Emmit: the Corvette replaces his car, stamp pictures fill his office and he wakes wearing a false mustache. Varga dismisses Emmit's fears and gives him a pill meant to calm him. Emmit pretends to take it, then leaves. While Gloria and Winnie continue investigating his rapidly expanding business, Emmit walks into the police station. He tells Gloria that he has come to confess, ending his attempt to keep his brother's death hidden.
