Winden is approaching the catastrophe Jonas has seen in its ruined future. In 2053, he discovers the plant’s unstable dark matter and uses it to reach 1921. There he meets Adam, the scarred leader of Sic Mundus, who identifies himself as Jonas decades older. Adam promises a way to break the cycle, while Claudia pursues an opposing strategy. Back in 2020, investigator Clausen reopens the missing-person cases and questions the identity of power-plant director Aleksander. The families begin uncovering the passage and portable time machines that have governed their lives.
Attempts to save loved ones repeatedly fulfil the events they were meant to prevent. Ulrich briefly escapes the psychiatric hospital where he has spent decades and finds Mikkel in 1987, but their return is stopped. Hannah visits the imprisoned Ulrich in 1954 and leaves him there. Claudia’s attempt to avert her father Egon’s death ends with her causing it. Sent back to prevent Michael’s suicide, Jonas instead gives his father the knowledge that leads him to preserve Jonas’s existence by dying. Noah discovers that Charlotte is his daughter with Elisabeth: Charlotte’s own daughter is also her mother. When he turns against Adam, his sister Agnes kills him.
On 27 June 2020, Clausen orders the buried radioactive barrels opened despite Charlotte’s warnings. Charlotte and the adult Elisabeth reach towards each other through a rift as the apocalypse begins. Claudia, Regina, Peter, young Elisabeth and young Noah shelter in the bunker; the adult Jonas gathers Magnus, Franziska and Bartosz to escape by machine. The younger Jonas reunites with Martha, but Adam shoots her, deliberately creating the loss that will shape his future self. As Martha dies and the shockwave approaches, another Martha arrives with a golden device. She comes from another world, expanding the disaster beyond a single timeline.
