Jury selection shows how sharply Frank Castle divides the city, with potential jurors treating him as either a murderer or a hero. Matt, Foggy and Karen prepare a defence under a tight deadline. Frank refuses to claim post-traumatic stress simply to improve his case, saying it would insult soldiers who have it. Karen instead obtains the name of a former commander who can describe his service, while the lawyers examine inconsistencies in the medical evidence about his family's deaths.
Elektra interrupts Matt's preparation with a lead on the coded ledger. They force a translator to explain the entries and follow the information to a rail shipment. The operation becomes a fight, and Matt brings the injured Elektra home afterwards. Their discussion about old scars and their relationship keeps him occupied until morning. He arrives late to court, leaving Foggy to deliver the opening statement and carry responsibilities that were supposed to be shared.
Matt and Karen prepare to question the medical examiner, but Elektra threatens the witness to make him tell the truth. The disclosure ruins the value of his testimony and deepens Foggy's anger at Matt's absences and secrecy. Matt confronts Elektra about interfering with the trial, but follows her to another guarded location. The warehouse appears empty until he detects something below them. They uncover an enormous excavation, and a dropped flashlight takes an unnervingly long time to reach the bottom.
