Jeong-hyeok brings Se-ri to hospital after the shooting, where doctors operate while he and the soldiers wait for news. Cheol-gang has escaped and receives secret treatment with Manager Oh’s help. Se-hyeong and Sang-a try to remove Jeong-hyeok from the hospital by questioning his role as bodyguard. When Se-ri wakes, she calls him back, and their reunion allows them to say openly how much they mean to each other.
Man-bok has placed a listening device in the room, giving the group news during Se-ri’s unconsciousness and capturing more than medical updates. She hears her mother’s apology for abandoning her as a child. Another recording exposes Se-hyeong and Sang-a discussing their involvement with Cheol-gang. Se-ri plays it to the family, and her father disowns his son. In the North, Dan and Seung-jun also admit their attraction and share a kiss.
The investigation into the tunnel brings the intelligence service closer to identifying the men in Seoul. Cheol-gang sends proof of Jeong-hyeok’s presence to the military director, threatening his father’s position, while Sang-a reports what she has learned. Jeong-hyeok leaves the soldiers to guard Se-ri and goes to confront Cheol-gang. Intelligence officers surround the building and order both men to lower their weapons. The confrontation remains unresolved when Cheol-gang reaches for his gun and turns to fire.
