Faye Valentine is forced into a casino job by Gordon, a crime boss who offers to clear her debt if she retrieves a particular gambling chip. Working as a blackjack dealer, she expects a courier to lose to her and hand over the chip. Spike and Jet arrive on an unrelated gambling trip, and Faye mistakes Spike for the man she is waiting for. Spike notices that she is cheating but refuses to follow the planned exchange. A collision with the actual courier then puts the important chip in his hands, drawing Gordon's men into a fight he never intended to start.
Spike and Jet intercept Faye as she tries to leave and take her back to the Bebop. They discover that the chip holds confidential data and that Faye has a bounty of her own. Gordon wants his property back, giving Jet an opportunity to negotiate a much larger payment than an ordinary casino win. The exchange takes place outside the ships, where Gordon's representative attempts to kill Spike instead of completing the deal. Spike survives the ambush, but Faye frees herself and escapes with the money while Jet deals with Gordon's attack. The hunters lose both possible rewards, and Faye leaves as someone who can outwit them as readily as she can attract trouble.
