Vicious attempts to seize control of the Red Dragon Syndicate, but the elders capture him and order a purge of people connected to him. That order reaches Spike and Jet while they are drinking together on Mars. Gunmen attack the bar, wounding Jet, and Lin's brother Shin helps them escape. He warns Spike that Julia is being hunted too. Memories explain the earlier separation: Spike wanted Julia to leave with him after he staged his death, but Vicious ordered her to kill Spike or face death with him. Julia fled instead of appearing at the arranged meeting, leaving Spike without the explanation he needed.
Faye crosses Julia's path during another syndicate attack and helps her escape. Their brief journey together turns into a message for Spike: Julia wants to meet him at the place he will remember. Faye returns to the Bebop to pass it on, reconnecting with Jet and Spike after her own failed journey home. Before Spike can go, syndicate fighters attack the ship and force him into its defence. Jet eventually tells him to leave and resolve the past that keeps pursuing them. Elsewhere, Vicious escapes his execution and kills the elders, taking the power denied to him at the opening. Spike reaches the cemetery and finally sees Julia again. She raises a pistol toward him, ending the reunion before either lover's intentions can be settled.
