The Bebop is short of food and fuel when a passing ship strikes it and leaves the crew stranded on Io. Faye is ill after eating the emergency rations, and Spike and Jet stay with the damaged vessel while Ed and Ein search for something to eat. Their trip brings them into the path of Domino, a mushroom seller pursued by the bounty hunter Coffee and an angry man with a personal grievance. Ed's wandering involvement causes confusion for everyone, and some mushrooms left behind during the pursuit seem to offer a solution to the ship's immediate food problem.
Ein's reaction suggests the mushrooms may be unsafe, but Ed tests them by leaving samples for the hungry adults. Spike becomes trapped in an apparently endless climb, Faye imagines herself swimming among huge fish, and Jet conducts a conversation with his bonsai. With all three incapacitated, Ed sees Domino on Big Shot and decides to catch him herself. She and Ein join a pursuit around a moving train, eventually getting the fugitive alone after the other hunters lose their opportunities. Domino bargains for his freedom with a large supply of mushrooms that he claims are expensive. Ed accepts, but a police test identifies the final haul as ordinary shiitake. The crew gains enough food for repeated meals and loses the chance to turn Domino into a useful cash reward.
