Nosedive follows Lacie Pound through a society where ratings affect housing and travel. She plans to raise her score by speaking at her wealthy friend Naomi’s wedding, but a cancelled flight and a chain of hostile encounters send her rating down. Naomi withdraws the invitation. Lacie crashes the reception anyway, turns her rehearsed speech into an outburst and ends up in jail, where she can finally speak without worrying about stars.
San Junipero gives Yorkie and Kelly a different possibility. Their meeting in a seaside nightclub appears to belong to their youth, but the town is a simulation visited by elderly people and inhabited permanently by the dead. Kelly marries Yorkie and authorises the euthanasia Yorkie wants, allowing her to stay. Kelly initially refuses the same future because of her late husband and daughter, then changes her mind and reunites with Yorkie.
The season closes with Hated in the Nation, as Karin Parke and Blue Coulson investigate deaths linked to an online hate campaign. Robotic replacement bees have been hijacked to kill the people nominated by a hashtag. The apparent solution conceals another trap: shutting down the system unleashes the insects against everyone who used it, causing a mass killing. Blue is subsequently believed dead, but she is alive and tracking the attacker abroad. These stories move from everyday approval to chosen companionship and an investigation whose initial targets conceal the larger crime.
