Season synopsis

After Coulson leaves the director’s chair, he and Mack quietly search for Daisy, who has gone underground as the vigilante Quake. They cross paths with Robbie Reyes, a Los Angeles mechanic turned Ghost Rider by a vengeance-driven spirit. Daisy and Robbie investigate the ghosts and the Momentum facility, where Eli Morrow’s Darkhold experiments open a breach into another dimension. Morrow gains the power to create matter and threatens Los Angeles with a destructive energy device; the team’s operation sends him through a portal, while Robbie follows him and disappears from their world.
The Darkhold’s influence continues through Aida, the android built by Holden Radcliffe, and the Life Model Decoys she helps create. Copies replace May and several other team members; the real agents eventually expose the deception. Radcliffe’s Framework becomes a simulated world in which Hydra rules and the agents live altered lives. Daisy and Simmons enter to bring their friends out. Fitz, Hydra’s Doctor and Aida’s partner there, helped build her human body. Mack resists leaving because the Framework gave him a life with his daughter Hope.
As the Framework begins collapsing, Yo-Yo reaches Mack, and he finally leaves after Hope disappears. Aida stages a public attack with a Daisy duplicate that shoots General Talbot; Talbot survives, but the footage is meant to turn people against S.H.I.E.L.D. and Inhumans. Coulson secretly makes a deal with the Ghost Rider spirit, then uses it to destroy Aida. Robbie takes the Darkhold through a portal. An unknown group freezes and abducts the agents; Coulson later wakes aboard a spacecraft.
