Jack Bauer and Renee Walker treat Ziya's injury after she cuts off his thumb. Jack wants to stop the operation, but Renee argues that she is still CTU's best route to the uranium. She offers Ziya a share of a lucrative deal, persuading him to take her to Vladimir Laitanan. Jack follows separately and listens to her communications, while Renee returns to a criminal circle that already knows her undercover identity.
Farhad arranges payment for the nuclear rods despite the crackdown in Kamistan. At Bazhaev's restaurant, Josef begs his father to let a doctor treat his younger brother Oleg, who is dying from radiation exposure. Bazhaev refuses to risk the sale by seeking medical help. Josef disobeys and takes Oleg to a clinic, threatening the doctor's family to keep the visit secret. President Taylor also confronts Hassan over the arrests taking place in his country.
Dana goes home to confront Kevin Wade and learns that he expects her access to CTU systems to help him make money. Her hidden past includes imprisonment as an accessory to murder, giving him a threat she cannot easily dismiss. Meanwhile, Vladimir doubts Renee's sudden return, shoots Ziya and tests her loyalty at gunpoint. She tells him to shoot rather than retreat from the confrontation. He spares her, allowing the undercover approach to continue while Jack listens helplessly.
