Military helicopters close in on Jack Bauer, but he lands on a rooftop and escapes into the streets. He buys disposable phones and asks Chloe to help him reach Dana Walsh. She tells him that a private security team is taking Dana away for questioning. Jack also contacts Jim Ricker, an old associate who supplies weapons, body armor and surveillance equipment for his attempt to recover her.
Ethan Kanin persuades President Taylor to reconsider the cover-up, and she initially asks him to prepare a statement withdrawing from the treaty. Logan changes her mind by proposing that contractors extract Dana's evidence at a secret facility. Taylor authorizes the transfer, and Kanin resigns rather than remain part of the deception. Dana begs Chloe for help as Mark Bledsoe's team takes her out of CTU.
Chloe decides to obey the order to capture Jack and gives him a false address. Cole waits there with a CTU team, but Jack recognizes the trap and disarms the agents. He makes Cole report that the operation succeeded, then persuades him to help rescue Dana and expose the Russians. Cole supplies the real location and leaves with Jack under the appearance of being his hostage. As Taylor publicly recommits to the peace agreement and introduces Dalia Hassan, Bledsoe's men begin waterboarding Dana to force her to reveal the evidence.
