Tony shoots himself to support his story that he and Larry Moss were ambushed by Galvez. He then secretly helps Galvez plan an explosive diversion from inside the FBI search operation. Renee learns that Moss is dead and takes charge while Jack insists on accompanying her despite his worsening illness. Meanwhile, Cara Bowden impersonates Hodges's lawyer and delivers a suicide capsule, threatening his family if he exposes the wider conspiracy. Hodges later swallows it during his transfer and suffers cardiac arrest.
At the scene, Jack notices that Tony's wound does not fit the weapons evidence and suspects Galvez had help. Galvez kills an agent, assumes his identity and reports the canister entering an abandoned building. Renee leads teams inside while Jack monitors their movements. The supposed agent's transponder is outside the building, exposing the trap. Jack warns Renee to withdraw, but Galvez detonates the explosives. Jack orders perimeter teams to remain in position so the attack cannot open an escape route.
Jack finds Renee alive and learns that Tony lied about his earlier informant, Vincent Cardiff, being killed during interrogation. Cardiff is alive in custody with no evidence of abuse. Tony meanwhile disguises Galvez as an injured agent and sends him out in an ambulance with the canister. When Jack confronts Tony, another seizure leaves him helpless. Tony has taken his medication and disarms him, then leaves as medical staff intervene. Galvez attacks the ambulance crew after passing the roadblock.
