Yusuf finds a transmitter attached to the recovered chip and removes it without discarding the evidence. Jack carries the tracker away to draw the pursuing gunmen towards himself while Kate and Yusuf take the chip. The diversion works, but Jack is captured near the clinic. Peter Kingsley offers him money, then orders Ronnie Stark to extract the chip's location by force. Jack refuses to cooperate as Stark cuts, burns and repeatedly shocks him.
Tony informs Palmer that Jack has found what he believes are the source recordings. Palmer calls off the attack despite warnings from Novick and Lynne about the military consequences. Prescott is gathering Cabinet support against him, and Novick draws Lynne into a private meeting. When she refuses to support removing Palmer, Novick leaves her locked in a storage room under guard. The President continues working without knowing that his own aide has helped isolate her.
Michelle tells Tony why Carrie is such a painful presence: her brother Danny destroyed his marriage over their relationship, then struggled after Carrie left him. Danny arrives at CTU and attacks Carrie before security restrains him. Tony comforts Michelle, and they kiss. Outside, racist attackers drag Yusuf from his car and beat him while Kate tries to intervene. Stark's final shocks leave Jack unresponsive, forcing the torturers to attempt resuscitation before their prisoner can reveal anything.
